Earn rate:
5% on groceries and supermarket, dining and fuel. Dubai First Cashback card offers one of the highest cashback rates on both dining and supermarket spending. There are other cards offering better cashback rates on fuel, such as Emirates Islamic Cashback Card which offers 10% cashback on fuel.
0.5% on everything else, except government, utility, transit, schools, bookstores, florists, photo studios, catering, laundry, real estate, insurance and charity. This is quite an extensive list, but the app displays the exact cashback earned on each transaction.
Perks:
Airport Lounge: Limited number of lounges available, mostly in the region.
Cinema Offer: get 4 cinema tickets per month for AED 20, plus 20% discount on cinema food and drinks. This offer only applies in weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and is subject to a minimum AED 4,000 spend.
Talabat: 20% off Talabat orders once a month, up AED 14, using promo code "MASTERCARD".
My Take
For someone who eats out a lot, this is the perfect card. With a relatively low income requirement, it offers one of the best cashback rates for dining, groceries and fuel.
A killer feature of this card is its transparency. Every transaction's cashback rate is clearly labelled on the app which helps you strategize your spending. There are some surprise categorizations. For example, Talabat is categorized as dining, but Careem Food is not. A supermarket near my house is not categorized as supermarket, I'm assuming because it's in an Emaar shopping mall, and to make sure correct points points are rewards to U By Emaar credit card holders (this is just my theory).
It sometimes works the other way around too. Life Pharmacy's online shop used to give a 5% cashback but it no longer does.
The cashback you earn is added to a cashback wallet, 1-3 days after spending date and can immediately be claimed with no minimum claim restrictions. This is one of the most flexible cashback systems in the UAE.
One thing to note, once you have this card, you can't apply for most FAB credit cards (Etihad and GEMS cards are the exception). So it's worth spending some time knowing FAB's offerings as well so you can make the most out of your spending.
This card is on my most recommended list to friends and family. High cashback rates, numerous offers with multiple large vendors in the UAE, and a transparent and flexible cashback system, makes this card a must have for a lot of people.
